The Unicel FG-1248 is a vertical-grid DE filter element assembly engineered as a direct replacement for Pentair / Purex SM and SMBW series DE filter housings, providing 48 sq ft of total filtration area across a complete grid set configuration. Construction consists of nylon mesh fabric over powder-coated steel grid frames, manifold-fed via standard center-hub collection geometry. Grid set includes seven full-length sectors plus one partial sector, with grid heights and manifold port dimensions held to OEM tolerance for direct manifold seating without shim or adapter hardware. Nominal DE media loading is 4.8 lb diatomaceous earth at the manufacturer-specified 1 lb per 10 sq ft ratio. Rated operating pressure: 50 PSI maximum; rated continuous service temperature: 104°F. Filtration efficiency under standard DE media loading: 3–5 microns nominal, suitable for polishing-grade water clarity in residential and light commercial service.

Service interval recommendations: backwash when ΔP rises 5–8 PSI above clean-filter operating baseline; recharge with fresh DE media at the 1 lb per 10 sq ft ratio after each backwash cycle. Annual service: full disassembly, manifold inspection, grid fabric inspection for tears exceeding 1 inch, delamination from frame, or frame corrosion at weld points.
