Overview

The Unicel C-5397 is a pleated polyester cartridge filter element engineered for high-capacity spa and swim-spa applications, providing 80.0 sq ft of filtration area through a high-density Reemay nonwoven polyester media pack. Dimensional specifications: 8-15/16 inch OD, 4-1/16 inch ID at the top opening with a closed bottom end cap, and 9-1/4 inch overall length. Construction features ABS injection-molded end caps with a molded-in top handle for service retrieval, bonded to a perforated polypropylene core for axial rigidity under elevated spa-circulation pressures. Nominal filtration efficiency is 15 microns under standard test conditions. The element is rated for continuous service to 115°F, with intermittent temperature excursions to 120°F acceptable per spa-rated bond specifications. UV-stabilized end cap adhesive resists degradation under sustained bromine and chlorine exposure typical of high-bather-load spa environments.

Service interval recommendation for swim-spa and high-volume spa applications: rinse with fresh water every 2–4 weeks; chemical soak (dilute TSP or commercial enzyme cleaner) every 4–6 weeks to remove accumulated body oils, surfactants, and cosmetic residues that resist water rinsing alone.
