Overview

The Unicel 5CH-45 is a pleated polyester spa filter cartridge engineered for the Freeflow Spas Legend filtration platform, delivering 45.0 sq ft of filtration area through a high-density pleat pack on a threaded-base configuration. The element terminates in a 2-inch MPT (male pipe thread) bottom fitting for direct screw-in installation into the spa skimmer/filter well, with a closed top cap completing the flow path. Overall length is 10 inches, sized for the Legend-series single-cartridge housing geometry. Media construction is Reemay-class nonwoven polyester at nominal 15-micron filtration efficiency; ABS end caps are injection-molded and chemically bonded to the pleat pack for sustained service at elevated spa water temperatures. Maximum continuous service temperature: 104°F, with short-duration excursions to 115°F acceptable. The threaded-base format eliminates the need for a separate standpipe, reducing potential bypass points in the filtration circuit.

Service interval recommendation: rinse every 2–4 weeks with fresh water at moderate pressure, working radially across the pleats to dislodge surface debris; perform a chemical soak in dilute TSP or a dedicated cartridge cleaner every 4–6 weeks to remove body oils, lotions, and surfactant residue that resist water-only rinsing. ΔP replacement trigger: ≥ 5 PSI above clean operating baseline, or visual evidence of pleat collapse, fabric tearing, or end-cap separation. Calendar-based replacement at 12–15 months under typical residential bather load. Chemical compatibility: continuous operation at ≤ 10 ppm free available chlorine or ≤ 30 ppm total bromine; muriatic acid soak at 1:20 dilution acceptable for calcium scale removal (20-minute maximum exposure, followed by thorough fresh-water rinse). Hand-tighten the 2-inch MPT base only — do not apply pipe wrench torque, which can fracture the ABS bottom cap. Standard Unicel 90-day manufacturing defect warranty applies through authorized distribution.
