Overview

The Unicel 4CH-23 is a pleated polyester spa cartridge filter element providing 25.0 sq ft of filtration area in a compact threaded-base configuration engineered for Freeflow Spas CLX-series filter housings. Construction features Reemay nonwoven polyester media on injection-molded ABS end caps, with a 1-1/2" MPT (male pipe thread) bottom fitting and closed top end cap for direct standpipe mounting. Nominal filtration efficiency is rated at 20 microns under standard test conditions. The element is rated for continuous service at temperatures up to 104°F, with intermittent excursions to 120°F acceptable for spa-duty applications. ABS end cap bond geometry maintains dimensional tolerance within ±0.030 inch at the threaded interface for confirmed bypass-free seating against the housing manifold.

Service interval recommendation: rinse with fresh water every 2–4 weeks under typical residential spa loading; chemical soak (dilute TSP or commercial enzyme cleaner) every 4–6 weeks to remove accumulated body oils, lotions, and surfactants that resist water rinsing. Replace at 12-month intervals or upon ΔP rise ≥ 5 PSI above clean operating baseline, whichever occurs first. Thread the element hand-tight into the housing manifold; do NOT apply pipe wrench torque to the MPT base, as overtightening will fracture the ABS end cap. Chemical compatibility: polyester fabric and ABS end caps tolerate continuous service at ≤ 10 ppm free available chlorine or equivalent bromine sanitization; muriatic acid wash (1:20 dilution, 20-minute maximum soak) compatible for calcium scale removal.
